Educator, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (Warren Hinds and Madison)

The Nutrition Educator is required to recruit participants for classes and Market the EFNEP Program in the county. Adult lessons are taught in a series of lessons using curriculums the focus on the following topics: nutrition, food preparation, food safety, meal management and physical activity. Youth lessons ae focused on eating healthy and increasing physical activity. Also required is collecting evaluations and regular reporting to the Program Specialist. The EFNEP Educator works with the guidance of the MSU Nutrition Education Assistant Director.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Expected to organize and follow lesson plans to engage audiences through innovative educational methods such as videos, mobile apps, and electronic publications in addition to traditional publications, visual aids and in person presentations to implement and evaluate nutrition educations programs that focus on nutrition, food safety handling practices, food shopping skills and active lifestyles in the Warren, Hinds and Madison County areas.
- Demonstrate written and oral communication skills to effectively deliver educational programs, events, and activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge in operation of computers e.g., Microsoft, EXCEL, PowerPoint, email, and internet.
- Demonstrate adequate understanding of subject matter and provide research-based information.
- Organize work and use of effective teaching tools such as recipes and demonstrations for adults. Support and adhere to Extension diversity of EEO/AA guidelines and procedures.
- Participate in relevant conferences and in-service training on nutrition topics to improve knowledge and skills.
Essential Job Functions
- Recruit and enroll homemakers that reflect racial statics of targeted counties.
- Individualize, organize, and follow lesson plans using designated teaching techniques and visual aids.
- Implement programs utilizing appropriate delivery methods, teaching techniques and resources to accomplish EFNEP goals in reaching targeted audiences.
- Review and evaluate program content, methods, and activities with the EFNEP Coordinator according to targeted audience usability for program implementation.
- Work as an effective team member with EFNEP Coordinator, Specialists, and F&CS Educators to enhance program implementation in nutrition, health, and fitness to maintain and enhance positive working relationships.
- Collaborate with area educators and specialists to seek information to enhance program quality and facilitate continuity in nutrition and health program area.
- Collaborate and establish an effective working relationship with nutrition and health related agencies and organizations to enhance program effectiveness.
- Network and cooperate with specialists to implement educational programs, events, and activities.
- Evaluate EFNEP programs, events, and activities according to EFNEP National Evaluation System and Extension’s reporting and accountability system.
- Prepare quarterly reports and success stories.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Three (3) or more years of experience in food preparation and nutrition is required.
- Must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license to be able to travel year-round to conduct educational programs, events, and activities.
- Must live in the county of service provision (Warren, Hinds and Madison Counties).
