Job Description

Stevens is accepting applications for the position of Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel.

Responsibilities: Opportunity to practice as a generalist for a successful nonprofit research university located in Hoboken NJ.  Practice to include a wide variety of matters including athletics, student affairs, employment, and labor law, negotiation and drafting of a wide range of contracts, litigation, compliance, and data privacy/IT.  Must have strong experience in one or more areas and be eager to develop expertise in other areas.   Excellent opportunity for someone committed to becoming, or developing as, a higher education attorney and interested in being part of a dynamic university community.  Small fast-paced collegial office with a hybrid work environment. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A law degree from an accredited institution; and currently admitted to practice and in good standing in the State of New Jersey.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience in the active practice of law;  significant experience in one or more of the substantive practice areas described above.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate within a diverse community.

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:  nonprofit law and the laws applicable to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations; investigations and internal proceedings; policy development; and intellectual property law.
