UB’s Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPRED), in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences (OVPHS), is searching for two Senior Research Proposal Strategists to grow sponsored research within the health sciences schools. The Senior Research Proposal Strategists will become the subject experts for all health science schools regarding the priorities, funding mechanisms, and program officers at all relevant funding agencies. The incumbents will prospect for major funding opportunities within their portfolio of funders and identify those where UB faculty have the necessary expertise and interest to be successful. In addition, the Senior Research Proposal Strategists will communicate with UB health sciences principal Investigators (PIs) and their teams about funding opportunities, track award cycles, create timelines and plan for large proposal submissions, while having a lead role in developing a strategy for research growth. When UB health science investigators apply for major awards with a funder within the portfolio, the incumbents will take a lead role in managing the proposal submission in collaboration with various units.

This position, at its core, is a strategic team-building and collaborative project management role. Candidates for this position should excel in time management and possess robust communication skills, with the capability to maintain composure in dynamic, high-pressure situations. The role demands proficient problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle a variety of projects and requests within tight deadlines.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Stay up-to-date on agency priorities, funding opportunities, faculty expertise, and all relevant research policies and procedures. Create a strategic vision for health sciences research with direction from leadership.
  • Create a network of faculty teams and sponsor contacts to facilitate communications and to ensure UB is poised to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
  • Independently oversee and manage complex, multi-investigator university research funding proposals, coordinating with various constituents to ensure timely submission.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities and proactively engage with funding agencies to create contacts and networks.
  • Create opportunities for faculty to engage with sponsors, program officers, and other external constituents.
