The faculty and staff of the Cummings Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CVDL) provide diagnostic laboratory services in support of the hospitals comprising Cummings Medical Center. The CDVL includes our Histology and Clinical Pathology Laboratories. The Histology Lab provides state of the art processing of tissue samples for both diagnostic evaluation and in support of our necropsy service. The Clinical Pathology laboratory offers a variety of diagnostic tests including hematology and clinical chemistry tests, urine and fecal analysis.
The histology technician must be a certified Histology Technician or Histotechnologist with 2 to 5 years’ experience. The position requires competency in tissue fixation, preparation, embedding, sectioning and staining procedures for routine preparations as well as electron microscopy and frozen sections. Competency in performing special (non H&E) histochemical staining, including reagent preparation and application is considered essential. Ability to trim biopsy tissues and process tissues for frozen sections would be considered an asset. All slides are read by a pathologist.
