The Comparative Pathology and Genomics Shared Resources (CPGSR) is housed in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB). The Comparative Pathology portion of the CPGSR provides cutting edge services including special histochemical staining, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Although the CPGSR is housed in CPB, the director of the Comparative Pathology portion of the CPGSR, also supervisor for this role, has a primary appointment in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health and secondary appointment in CPB (Amanda Martinot).
What You'll Do
The Histology Lab Supervisor must be a certified Histology Technologist (HTL) with a minimum of five years of histology experience. The supervisor is expected to actively participate in bench work and should be competent in tissue trimming, fixation, cutting, preparation, embedding, sectioning and staining procedures for routine preparations, as well as frozen sections and cell block preparation. Competency in performing special (non-H&E) histochemical staining, including reagent preparation, validation and application is considered essential. The supervisor should also be capable of evaluating and implementing new procedures and techniques. Training in specialized techniques including in situ hybridization (RNAscope) will be provided if needed and will be part of the day-to-day laboratory efforts. All slides are read by a pathologist. Ability to create frozen sections would be welcome but is not essential. This person will be responsible for supervising staff (e.g., lab aides), and will play a role in their training, performance assessment and in any new hires. Additionally, this person will manage supply needs including ordering, manage billing of services (using iLAB) and work with both internal and external users. Preference will be given to someone with at least two years of management experience. In addition, the supervisor would maintain laboratory SOPs, conduct internal laboratory quality control evaluations, and maintain equipment. The supervisor would also maintain compliance with agencies such as OSHA and EP.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Required Experience, Education, Background, And Certifications/Licenses
• 5+ years histology experience in an academic, research or diagnostic environment.
• Histologist or Histotechnologist license/certification
• Proficient in Word and Excel

• 2+ years of histology lab supervisory experience
