Research Technician I, Department of Oral Biology

A Research Technician I position is available at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine's Department of Oral Biology with Dr. Harim Tavares dos Santos's research team. The primary objective of this position is to study epithelial biology, with a focus on salivary gland inflammation. The candidate will develop and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments, histological processing and imaging, molecular biology techniques, and perform administrative tasks, as detailed below.
The activities of the Research Technician I will consist of:
- Mammalian cell culture
- DNA/RNA extraction and PCR;
- Protein detection/quantification and cell signaling studies
- Mice: maintaining the mouse colony, drug treatment, breeding and genotyping, and sample harvesting
- Histology (sample preparation)
- Microscopy imaging (brightfield, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy)
- Flow cytometry: multiple channel FACS analysis and immune profiling
- Presenting at scientific meetings for studies that the person conducts
- Administrative duties (taking notes during lab meetings, assisting with purchase orders and inventory management, managing protocol submissions and documentation, lab organization)
- Training and supervision of new technicians and students
