Bioinformatics Analyst, Oral Biology

The School of Dental Medicine at the University at Buffalo is seeking applications for a Bioinformatics Analyst in the Department of Oral Biology. A bioinformatics analyst is needed for computational and statistical methods to analyze biological data. This position requires this individual to work with researchers in biomolecular fields to utilize existing and develop new methods for studying gene expression, bacterial composition and other types of complex data sets, including clinical data. The responsibilities include:
- Organize and curate a database of 16S rRNA genes derived from metagenomic data and establish a pipeline for clustering, phylogenetic placement and taxonomic assignment of new sequences as new metagenomes are added
- Implement an automated pipeline for extraction of High-Quality genomes from metagenomes
- Support the management of ‘omics data from study investigators publicly available resources
- Develop and implement bioinformatics tools to support and integrate clinical research and informatics data sets
- Perform data mining and data analysis by utilizing bioinformatics analysis tools and methods
- Provide Bioinformatics/Biostatistics support to trainees, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
- Exercise independent judgment in developing and modifying methods and techniques for solving problems
- May be responsible for conducting complete projects of moderate scope or portions of larger projects
