The Department of Political Science at Tufts University ranks among the leading undergraduate political science departments in the country. What You'll Do
This is a hybrid position and is expected to be on campus at least 2 days each week and to be present at in-person events, which sometimes occur in the early evening. The role is also expected to work during Commencement which is one weekend in early May. Other work has the flexibility to be completed remotely, including attending and managing virtual events.
The Administrative Coordinator provides advanced level support in promoting effective communications across the Political Science Department and University. They oversee events and special projects geared toward Political Science majors and other students, faculty, and the public; manage registration and implementation of virtual events; manage reservations and execution of in-person events; use graphic design skills to develop print and online materials such as flyers and posters, including layout, drafting, editing, and proofreading; use social media skills to coordinate publicity materials, advertising, and public relations for all Political Science events; assist in monitoring and updating the Political Science website using Drupal, as well as the Department's Facebook page and Twitter feed; update and manage Box; assist Faculty with FIS Elements as needed; retain yearly list of PS events and cosponsors for Chair; assist with alumni events and write the yearly alumni newsletter; coordinate events with co-sponsoring Departments and programs; and provide general administrative support as necessary.
The position also oversees the Pre-College Intensive program in International Relations with primary responsibility for the program during its summer duration (8:00-5:00 July 21-August 2). In interaction with Pre-College Program staff, will oversee planning and logistics for the program during the academic year and summer months (averaging out to approximately ten hours per week), which includes such projects as: reviewing student applications and responding to questions from students and parents during the pre-enrollment period; recruiting instructors and TAs and speakers in collaboration with faculty advisors; supervising and providing guidance to TAs before and during the program, collaborating with language instructors to place students into language sections.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years of administrative experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of communications/administrative experience
- Recent Tufts and Fletcher Graduates encouraged to apply
- Graphic art skills a plus
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Work Schedule will be set weekly by the event workload in the Department. Being an election year, there will be a high volume of Political Related events for students.
