Position Summary

The Counseling Services department at the University at Buffalo is seeking a generalist Counselor/Psychologist with specific interest & experience in providing counseling to college students who are experiencing personal and academic concerns. Depending upon the needs of the campus, this counselor may extend our mission by being embedded in an academic unit in one of our 13 Schools and Colleges 2-3 days per week. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in serving college student populations, operating in multidisciplinary systems, and working independently.

As a Counselor/Psychologist, your responsibilities include:
  • Performing individual, group and couples counseling
  • Providing consultations with faculty and staff on student issues
  • Facilitating presentations on mental health topics for a diverse student population
  • Providing on-call and crisis intervention
  • May supervise graduate students in psychology, social work, and mental health counseling.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must currently have or will attain a New York State psychology license or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) status , or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) status within 18 months of the date of hire.
  • Experience required: Two years of clinical experience working with young adults (18-25 years) or adults (25+ years).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of University Counseling Center experience.
  • Significant experience working with individuals with persistent mental illness.
