The University at Buffalo, Office of the Graduate School seeks to hire a Marketing and Communications Manager. The Manager works to develop strategic communications that advance the goals of programs within the Graduate School and the University. The Manager will be a seasoned communications professional and will be viewed as the expert in content strategy and development within the department. The Manager will work directly with program leaders to strategize and develop compelling content and communications that meet university standards and achieves goals.
This position requires close interaction with campus and external partners. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Professional Development.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Develop an understanding of and offer consultations regarding marketing and communication needs, particularly as they pertain to reaching target audiences.
Assist Graduate School university partners who support graduate students, in understanding and shaping their comprehensive creative marketing, public relations, and communications strategies and solutions.
Develop the short- and long-term needs and goals for a portfolio of websites, and manage website ideation, strategy, planning and implementation.
Lead the design and implementation of website enhancements in the UB CMS and provide training to Graduate School staff in CMS components.
Develop and maintain an annual communication strategy plan whereby communications are not competing with one another.
Write, edit and proofread written content used in conjunction with the marketing and communications efforts of all Graduate School areas.
Create, edit and make accessible, PDF and Formstack forms.
Troubleshoot any compliance concerns with Interdivisional Marketing and Communications and University Communications as needed.
Responsible for the exploration of current trends in the field of higher education and emerging technologies that would have an impact on the manner in which we communicate with our target audiences and make recommendations for implementation.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in a marketing and communications role. A successful applicant will also have competencies in the following areas:
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to adapt tone and style for different media and target audiences.
Proven editorial planning and copy editing skills. High digital literacy skills, (e.g. writing for the Web, SEO, social media, CMS).
Experience with communication functions of CMS/website management systems.
Experience with Adobe products, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Working knowledge of digital accessibility, accessible design and WC3 remediation.
Familiarity with CRM email and event management systems
Demonstrated close knowledge of Associated Press writing style
Experience working with diverse constituents.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or closely related fields.
Master’s degree in related field.
Work experience in higher education.
Experience with education technology.
Demonstrated proficiency in project management.
Experience developing communications within the framework of an established brand.
Working knowledge of the UB systems.
Experience with listservs, Mailchimp, YouTube, Siteimprove and Adobe Experience Manager.
