The Baiz lab at the University at Buffalo, SUNY seeks a Research Technician to assist with research operations in the areas of speciation/hybridization, symbiosis and microbial ecology. Core projects involve bird-microbe-mite interactions, examined through the lens of evolutionary biology.

This is an in-person, full-time, benefits-eligible position. The candidate will oversee laboratory operations, assist with experiments, data collection, data management, and field work.

Specific tasks include:
  • attending weekly lab meetings;
  • ensuring that the lab is stocked with necessary supplies and placing orders as needed;
  • maintaining databases of samples, reagents, data, etc.;
  • running DNA extractions/PCRs/gels for various projects;
  • optimizing/troubleshooting specific protocols;
  • maintaining microbial cultures in the laboratory;
  • assisting grad students/postdocs with sample collection/field work.
