Departmental Overview

The Email & Collaboration Services team delivers business critical campus-wide services including: email, calendars, videoconferencing, software licensing, and content collaboration services as part of the Productivity & Collaboration Services Department. Productivity & Collaboration Services provides technologies and software to support the overall productivity and collaboration of students, faculty, and staff in their pursuit of the academic and research missions of the university.

Position Summary

In collaboration with other team members, this position is responsible for administering and supporting campus Software as a Service (SaaS) collaboration platforms within the bConnected Email & Collaboration Services portfolio. This support includes the development and maintenance of scripts, servers and services necessary for the integration of these platforms with campus systems.

Responsibilities

Defines, designs and implements systems, services and technology solutions.

  • Proposes and implements system or device enhancements such as software, server and network configuration, updates and installations for projects or services of moderately complex scope.
  • Contribute to planning and roadmap for continuous service improvement projects with a focus on technical feasibility, maintainability, service stability, and efficiency.
  • Work on continuous service improvement projects based on knowledge of vendor roadmaps and industrywide and higher-ed-wide best practices.
  • Provide technical expertise in written and verbal forms to technical and non-technical staff and management as changes are being considered.


Manages infrastructure systems and services to deliver Software as a Service (SaaS) collaboration platforms and their associated services and service requests including email delivery and routing systems.

  • Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, modify and support operating systems, databases, utilities and Internet/intranet-related tools.
  • Plans, designs and implements moderately complex system updates and rollouts.


Serves as an administrator for Google Workspace at UC Berkeley:

  • Maintain and update Linux hosted applications and scripts following change management protocols.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical problems as they arise.


Serve as a primary or backup administrator of other cloud-based collaborative tools run by the Productivity and Collaboration Services department, such as videoconferencing (e.g., Zoom), chat (e.g., Slack), file sharing (e.g. Box, Sharepoint, OneDrive), and software licensing (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365).

Writes and executes complex scripts and may write software in support of systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple integrated systems.

  • Write Bash scripts that use GAM commands to update users in Google Workspace.
  • Update existing Python code to add features to our management tools used by the service desk and support teams.


Performs complex security control activities to prevent unauthorized access to networked resources. May assist with maintenance of security systems.

Work with the security and identity management teams to ensure the security and policy compliance of the services supported by Productivity and Collaboration Services.

  • Implement, manage and monitor Data Loss Prevention (DLP) feature configurations in collaboration with the team and Information Security Office.
  • Implement and maintain security alerts by monitoring services for performance anomalies.
  • Create and maintain security management plans following current UC policies.

  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
  • Experience with Bash, Python and SQL.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
  • Experience managing Linux server environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies.
  • Demonstrated skills using Splunk for log analysis and monitoring
  • Demonstrated experience with Google Apps Script and BigQuery.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill managing/supporting Software as a Service (SaaS) collaboration platforms including: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Zoom Workplace.


Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly at an annual rate and is eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $54.55 (Step 1) - $61.11 (Step 3.5).
